What is YouthLink?

AMTIL’s YouthLink program provides a consistent and persistent approach to attracting and securing young people into manufacturing careers.  The concept is targeted at 16-19 year old students who are looking for exciting careers in engineering.  It is intended to attract new entrants into the industry by promoting the opportunities that are available to them in a forum designed specifically for them, their parents and advisors.
There are four key aspects to the YouthLink initiative.

  • YouthLink Start-Up – a campaign designed to stimulate young people to consider a career in manufacturing.
  • YouthLink Program – A comprehensive matchmaker program designed to bring job candidates, employers, training providers and other stakeholders together. The typical YouthLink program includes an information briefing, a tour of the Centre for New Manufacturing plus presentations from employers in the manufacturing industry. During the forum participants are also given the opportunity to set up interviews with prospective employers providing them with a direct link into the industry of their choice.
  • YouthLink Follow-Up – Dedicated follow up activities designed to maximise career take-up by candidates.
  • YouthLink Plus – A value-added mentoring program which fast tracks young employees to potential leaders and improves industry retention of skills.

The benefits of YouthLink extend beyond those offered to job candidates and prospective employers, to secondary schools keen to provide their students with a broader range of career opportunities, learning institutions keen to increase student enrolments and trade associations interested in helping their members find new employees.

Manufacturing: What is it (Career Information and Assistance)?

What is Precision Engineering?
Precision Engineering is an attitude as well as a technique. It has been defined as painstaking attention to detail and requires knowledge of a wide variety of measurement, fabrication, and control issues. Increasing the precision--the accuracy and repeatability - of a mechanism or process is critical to our country's competitive position in the world of high technology.
What is Precision Engineering

  • working at the forefront of current technology
  • shooting after the next decimal place
  • those striving for the best possible product
  • engineering wherein the tolerances are 1 part in 10,000 or less of a feature/part size
  • an attitude wherein there is no such thing as randomness, all effects have a deterministic cause
