Tips for Jobseekers

Ensure you are dressed smartly for interview and at a level relevant to the role. ie. If you are applying for trade or workshop position then neat/smart attire will suffice. If you are applying for a sales, service, management or executive role ensure you present in corporate attire. ie Suit/Tie.

The big "DO's" during interview are :
- DO turn your mobile phone off
- DO take your sunglasses off your head!
- DO look directly at the interviewer - not out the window or around the room
- DO ask prepared questions about the role and the company - show your interest
- DO ensure that you come armed with a list of achievements
- DO take notes during the interview
- DO follow up the interview with an email or phone call to thank the interviewer for their time.

If you are having an interview directly with the company then ensure that you do your research on the company. Basic information can be easily accessed via company websites or Google search.

There are other ways to find jobs rather than just on online job boards or from newspapers. Don't forget to tap into the hidden recruitment market:
- Network with your contacts within the industry or industry association to ascertain what roles are available
- Networking functions or industry group conferences/seminars can be an excellent way to meet your next employer
- TAFES and Universities have career centres that often have available positions lists sent in by prospective employers
- "Cold call" companies to ascertain if there are any roles available - however, it is essential you research the company first - PREPARE PREPARE PREPARE.
